# Yehi — methodology brand

**Status:** Active Tehom sub-brand per Brand Guidelines v1.4. The Yehi glyph mark — dot above (matching the Tehom dot position), dashed vertical descent (the act in motion), short emerging horizon below — is adopted as canonical in v1.4. Wordmark, glyph mark, and full lockup set live in this kit.

> *And God said, "Let there be light" — יְהִי אוֹר — and there was light.* — Genesis 1:3

**Yehi (יְהִי, "let there be")** is Tehom's methodology for shipping the work that has been committed to. It is the bet-driven execution cadence for agentic teams — the evolution of Shape Up, adapted so humans and agents can run the same cycles. The name is the speech-act in Genesis 1:3 that brings light out of the deep. Phonetically: *YEH-hee.*

Yehi is the implementation of what Tehom owns. Where Tehom is the medium, Yehi is the act-upon-the-medium. The substrate is Tehom; the cadence that ships work on it is Yehi.

**Caveat — wordmark format.** Wordmarks render Fraunces Light as live `<text>` rather than outlined paths. They are *draft surfaces*; they look correct anywhere Fraunces loads. For canonical use, re-export them as outlined paths from a vector tool with Fraunces Variable installed at `opsz=144, wght=300`. Same wordmark glyph treatment as `tehom-wordmark-{dark,light}.svg` in the canonical asset pack.

**Glyph mark adopted in v1.4.** v1.3 specified that "Yehi currently ships wordmark-only. A glyph mark for Yehi requires a versioned brand-guidelines commit." That commit is the [`v1-4 draft`](../v1-4-draft.md). The mark depicts the speech-act: dot above (same position as the Tehom dot — YHWH's light is constant), dashed vertical descent (the act in motion), short emerging horizon below (the threshold being born). Dashed strokes carry the family convention of *act-in-motion vs stable artifact*.

## The mark

The Yehi mark renders the same geometric vocabulary as the Tehom master mark, in the same canvas (128 × 116.75 with 14u padding), with the same dot position (cx=50, cy=8.75, r=8.75) and stroke weight (1.3, hairline). What differs:

- **Tehom** has the threshold at y=38.75 with three arcs descending into the deep (the medium below).
- **Yehi** has a dashed vertical descent (stroke-dasharray "3 4") from below the dot down to a short emerging horizon at y=78. The dashed line carries the act-in-motion convention; the short horizon shows the threshold being formed by the speech-act, not yet the full breadth of Tehom's locked horizon.

In light-mode variants, the dot becomes a hollow circle (cream interior, deep stroke) per the v1.3 light-mode rendering rule. The dashed descent remains the deep value.

## Naming

- **Full form:** Yehi (standalone) or **Yehi by Tehom** (first introduction in a Tehom-naive context, marketing surfaces, license documents)
- **Short form:** Yehi after first introduction
- **In writing:** capitalized when standalone. The wordmark itself stays lowercase.
- **Never:** "Y!H!" (no dramatization), "the Yehi method" (the noun stands alone — Yehi *is* the method), all-caps "YEHI"
- **In speech:** *YEH-hee* (Sephardic / modern Hebrew). Two syllables. Soft "h."
- **Possessive:** "Yehi's" — appropriate when describing what the methodology owns ("Yehi's cadence," "Yehi's bet contract")
- **Hebrew form:** יְהִי — only on permitted theology surfaces per v1.3

## Visual inheritance

Yehi inherits the entire Tehom design system:

- **Colors:** all six locked Tehom tokens. No Yehi-specific palette.
- **Type:** same three families. Fraunces Light for the wordmark, Inter for body, IBM Plex Mono for code and methodology notation (cycle IDs, bet IDs, dates).
- **Spacing, motion, hairlines, shadows-absent, corners-sharp:** identical.
- **Iconography:** Yehi consumes the substrate/domain group of the Tehom icon family. The methodology-specific icons (`bet`, `cycle`, `cool-down`, `blocker`, `agreement`, `governance`, `evaluation`, `audit`, `yehi`, plus the v1.2 additions below) are the working set.

The single visual concession Yehi gets is the "by Tehom" attribution lockup — a small caption beneath the wordmark, in Inter Regular at 10pt, `--tehom-muted`. This is the only Yehi-only typographic pattern.

## Yehi-specific iconography

The Yehi methodology vocabulary is encoded across the Tehom icon family. The substrate/domain group is essentially Yehi's domain:

| Icon | Methodology concept |
|---|---|
| `yehi` | The speech-act. The commitment moment. |
| `bet` | A committed thing. One bet = one team × one bet-length × one outcome. |
| `cycle` | The Yehi cadence. Six weeks (or whatever cadence the team locks). |
| `cool-down` | The harvest/settling period after a cycle closes. |
| `blocker` | Stop-and-escalate. Surfaces obstruction; demands attention. |
| `agreement` | The covenant — bet contract, cycle goal, signed-off scope. |
| `governance` | The constraint envelope around what a bet may do. |
| `evaluation` | Judgment over the bet's outcomes. |
| `audit` | The trail — what was committed, what shipped, what was learned. |
| `goal` (new) | The destination of a cycle. |
| `spike` (new) | A time-boxed exploratory bet that ends in a decision, not a deliverable. |
| `harvest` (new) | Cool-down work that crystallizes learning into reusable craft. |
| `wisdom` (new) | The reviewer concept — distilled judgment carried forward. |

## Voice on a Yehi surface

Yehi inherits the **Magician 60% / Sage 40%** brand voice. The only register adjustment: Yehi speaks in **the operator's verbs.** Shape Up was written for shipping software; Yehi is written for shipping the bets the team committed to. Use the operator's vocabulary — "ship the bet," "close the cycle," "harvest the cool-down," "name the blocker," "earn the next bet."

Avoid: "the Yehi system thinks…," "the framework provides…," anything that puts Yehi in the active position. Yehi is the cadence the team runs *in*; the team is the active subject.

---

## When to introduce Yehi

In any Tehom material that references the methodology, **first introduction uses "Yehi by Tehom" with the lockup-attribution wordmark**. After first introduction, "Yehi" alone is fine and the wordmark-only file is appropriate.

In a Yehi-only document or license, the wordmark-only file is appropriate from the start.

---

## Tagline candidates (interim, not locked)

- *"Shape what's spoken into being."*
- *"The bet-driven cadence for agentic teams."*
- *"Tehom's methodology for shipping the work you've committed to."*

Final Yehi tagline locks after the first Yehi-branded surface ships.
